Love is an Action Verb

Once upon a time
In a land not so far away
There lived a girl, who had given up on finding love
She was a hopeless romantic who believed that true love still existed
But somewhere along the way her view of love became twisted
Because she truly believes that love is, what love does
Yet she lives in a world where to most, love isn’t an action verb
But she specializes in grammar
So she knows the naked truth
That love isn’t just what love does
But love is also, what love do.
You see both are present, but if you never had to demonstrate what love is
Then you probably wouldn’t understand how this little girl feels
With her heart so full of love with no potential recipient
You couldn’t imagine the pain she feels from the wasted time that she spent
Giving her heart to others
Who weren’t worthy of the type of love that she gives
Trying to force a square peg into a round hole
And somehow thinking that her sex appeal
Would be enough to keep those that fell into her aesthetic love trap
Who became infatuated with her outer beauty, but couldn’t identify love on a map
Those who were quick to take, but slow to reciprocate
Who were in love with the idea of being in love as long as it was in that euphoric state
But as soon as the anesthetic wore off, they left as quickly as they came
And that little girl was left to nurse her broken heart, she had only herself to blame
You would think she’d know better by now
Why doesn’t she learn from her faults?
The idea of life without love is appalling to her,
Because it’s contrary to what she’s been taught
That love isn’t just a feeling, love is about doing the work
Working through the kinks and straightening them out, even though at times love may hurt
Love is far from a walk in the park; in fact sometimes it’s a swim up stream
But it’s a journey that is so worth it all
If you have the right player on your team
But that little girl became weary
She had given love all that she possessed
She became numb to the idea of love
And put her love journey to on an eternal rest
Why had love forsaken her?
Was it just not meant to be?
Why does everyone that she gives her heart to
Just up and fuckin’ leave!
Why is she so un-loveable and disposable?
Why must they throw her away like trash?
When she was willing to give them her everything!
Why must they be so brash?
Is this truly what love is?
Heart-ache, headaches, and pain?
Silent tears on her pillow deep into the night
Ego drenched in embarrassment and shame
From another failed relationship
Where she gave all that she had to give
In the end they gave her their ass to kiss
And didn’t give two fucks about how she feels
There has to be more to this notion of love
They need to teach a course on this in grade school
Love Abuse Resistance Education
Equipping our babies with tools
Because love is a deadly drug
And we need to get high on our own supply
Because relying on the love of others to sustain you
Will surely cause your demise
Self Love is the Best Love
Is the greatest lesson that this girl ever learned
Once she got that concept in her spirit
Oh my how those tables turned
She still desires companionship
But it’s no longer a necessity
She’s allowing the Universe to have it’s way
And letting love be what it’s gon’ be
